Bonham MS Named to U.S. News Best Middle Schools Ranking

TEMPLE, Texas — Temple Independent School District’s Bonham Middle School has been recognized by U.S. News with a spot on the publication’s 2025 Best Middle School list.

The U.S. News K-8 Best rankings recognize the top elementary and middle schools on a state-by-state basis. Bonham Middle School earned a spot on the Texas Best Middle Schools list by virtue of its score in the U.S. News rankings. Schools are assessed on their student’s proficiencies in mathematics and reading, as measured by state assessment tests. The rankings are based on a formula that includes overall results and results in the context of socioeconomic demographics. The combined results in those four metrics are then used to recognize high achieving schools that succeeded in educating all of their students.

“Being recognized as one of the U.S. News Best Middle Schools is an extraordinary honor, and it is a testament to the dedication, passion, and tireless work of our students, staff, and the entire school community,” said Michael Hobbs, principal of Bonham Middle School. “This achievement reflects the hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence that each individual brings to our school. I am so proud of the way our students strive for success, and the unwavering support and guidance our staff provides to help them reach their full potential. This recognition reinforces the incredible power of collaboration, community, and a shared commitment to lead every day at Bonham Middle School.”

There are no national U.S. News rankings for middle schools and all of the data used to compile the rankings comes from third-party sources, including the U.S. Department of Education. The publication posted numerical rankings for more than 23,000 public middle schools. Schools must rank in the top 40% of evaluated schools to receive a U.S. News Best state ranking.

“Temple ISD focuses on competing at the state and national levels to rank among the best. I have always said, if you can land among those metrics, local competition resolves itself. This is one of many examples, whether academic or extra-curricular, where Temple education is featured at the highest levels. I am proud of our staff, students, and families for working together in this effort,” said Dr. Bobby Ott, superintendent of schools for Temple ISD. “Temple ISD is truly becoming one of the top choices for Central Texas education efforts, programming, governance, and service to our students. We will continue charging forward. We have much more to do!”
