## Math

The 6th-grade mathematics course builds on the student’s basic understandings of numbers and numeration, algebraic thinking, measurement, probability and statistics, geometry, and problem-solving skills. The 7th-grade mathematics course will build on the basic skills needed to be successful in the higher levels of mathematics, including algebra and geometry, and introduce the higher-level thinking skills needed to solve advanced math problems. The purpose of the 8th-grade course is to ensure students are prepared for Algebra I in 9th grade. Students will use basic principles of algebra to analyze both proportional and non-proportional linear relationships and will use principles of probability to describe data and make conclusions.

## Pre-AP Math

The Pre-AP mathematics course is a rigorous, fast-paced, and accelerated course. Students will be instructed in the Math TEKS from the next grade level--7th-grade TEKS for 6th graders and 8th-grade TEKS for 7th graders--bridging to the Math TEKS for the current grade in order to ensure mastery and success on the grade level STAAR. Students are expected to participate in class discussions and complete group or individual projects and extensions.

## Algebra 1 (7th grade and 8th-grade high school credit)

This course is the foundation of high school math, providing a transition from arithmetic to higher math. It is the study of the interrelationship between variables and the methods for manipulating them. Students will use tools, technology, and a variety of representations to model and solve problems. Students in this class are expected to be highly motivated self-starters that are willing to engage in independent and analytical assignments and to complete a substantial amount of work outside of class.

*Students must have earned their 8th-grade math credit in order to enroll in this course.*## Geometry (8th-grade high school credit)

Geometry is a high school credit course. This course will teach the concept of geometric thinking and spatial reasoning, geometric figures and their properties in two as well as three dimensions, the relationship between geometry and other mathematics and other disciplines, geometric structure, analyzing geometric relationships in order to make and verify conjectures, logical reasoning and problem-solving involving geometry, geometric patterns, coordinate systems, congruence, similarity, and the geometry of size. Students will use tools, technology, and a variety of representations to model and solve problems. Students in this class are expected to be highly motivated self-starters that are willing to engage in independent and analytical assignments and to complete a substantial amount of work outside of class.
